Director – Commercial & Complex Procurement (Public Sector)

London | £125,000–£135,000 base salary

Lead the commercial deals behind major government programmes.

An established consultancy with a strong track record in public-sector commercial advisory is expanding its capability following continued success. They are looking for a Director who can win consulting work, shape complex procurements and lead teams delivering meaningful outcomes across UK central government and arm’s-length bodies.

This opportunity will suit someone who combines deep commercial expertise with the ability to build senior client relationships and grow a consulting business. You could currently be a Senior Manager or Associate Director within a major consultancy, or lead a relevant capability within a specialist firm.

Role Responsibilities

You will advise government clients on high-value sourcing decisions and complex transactions, particularly those involving technology, outsourcing, platforms and managed services.

Your remit will include

  • Shaping commercial strategies, business cases and delivery models, helping clients translate programme objectives into a clear approach to market.
  • Leading market engagement, tender design, evaluation, negotiation and contract award, with support through mobilisation and implementation.
  • Structuring pricing, risk allocation, incentives and supplier performance measures that deliver value for government and attract credible, commercially viable bids.
  • Leading consulting engagements and multidisciplinary teams, providing direction, assuring quality and developing colleagues.
  • Building relationships with commercial directors, SROs, programme leaders, procurement lawyers, technical specialists and supplier executives.
  • Owning a sales target, originating opportunities, leading proposals and growing client accounts.
  • Developing propositions that strengthen an already successful public-sector commercial practice.

Desired Experience

  • A consulting background, with experience leading complex commercial or procurement engagements for UK central government or arm’s-length bodies.
  • A track record of winning consulting work and developing senior client relationships.
  • Experience of major technology procurements or comparable complex sourcing transactions.
  • Strong knowledge of UK public procurement requirements and practical experience across the commercial lifecycle.
  • Sound commercial judgement: an understanding of supplier economics, delivery risk, negotiation and how to structure contracts that work for both parties.
  • Experience managing delivery teams and advising senior stakeholders through difficult commercial decisions.

Why join?

You will join a consultancy already trusted in this market, with ongoing client demand creating the opportunity to expand its capability. You will have scope to shape the offering, grow accounts and develop a team, while remaining closely involved in the commercial decisions and delivery work that matter to clients.
