As a Technical Buyer / Material Controller, you will manage both carry-over and non-stocked part demand, coordinating procurement activities from initial requisition through to line-side delivery while maintaining strict focus on cost, quality and timing.

Working cross-functionally with Engineering, Logistics, Procurement and Manufacturing, you will monitor supplier performance, align part release timing with Material Planners and Controllers, and drive a lean, continuous improvement approach across the wider prototype environment. This is a fast-paced, collaborative position requiring strong commercial awareness and the ability to operate effectively within a complex, low-volume, high-value automotive development setting.
Key Responsibilities Of a Buyer
- Support stock and non-stock procurement across wider Prototype Team requirements
- Promote and support a lean approach to achieve key purchasing objectives
- Monitor supplier performance and internal stakeholder delivery
- Work collaboratively within the Prototype Build Team to deliver builds against cost, quality and time targets
Coordinate stock demands from initial request through to parts delivery line-side
- Liaise directly with Material Planners and Controllers to agree part release timing
- Maintain close working relationships across the wider logistics function
- Track and report progress of active requisitions to ensure timely budget approval and part delivery
- Ensure supplier requirements and concerns are clearly understood and escalated appropriately
- Encourage continuous improvement, quality principles and commercial awareness across departments
Skills Required Of a Buyer
- Proven experience across multiple commodities
- Demonstrable commercial success within Automotive, Motorsport or Engineering environments
- Strong supply chain and procurement experience, working with both SME and large-scale organisations
- Excellent organisational skills with exceptional attention to detail and deadline adherence
- Ability to remain calm under pressure with clear, decisive decision-making capability
- Strong analytical and lateral thinking skills
- Results-driven with the ability to meet aggressive targets
- Experience reviewing parts using CAD-based systems (preferably CATIA)
- Proficient in MS Office applications
- SAP experience is advantageous
- Flexible approach to working hours
