Commercial Governance & Procurement Manager
Bushey, Hertfordshire | Monday–Friday, 9am–3pm | On-site
£47,000 p.a. pro rata + Benefits
There are some clients where you become genuinely invested in over the years. This is one of those ‘special’ companies.
BondMoran have partnered with this exceptional local business for many years and, during that time, we’ve had the privilege of watching them grow at a remarkable pace. That growth has never come at the expense of who they are.
They have become larger, more successful and increasingly sophisticated, but they have never allowed themselves to become overly corporate or lose the sense of identity that has always made them special. At heart, this is still a family business.
That doesn’t happen by accident and maintaining that environment while growing at pace has taken hard work, consistency, unwavering standards and a huge amount of care from the people leading the business.
Having worked closely with the senior leadership team for many years, we can personally vouch for the thought they put into the decisions they make and the responsibility they feel for the business they are building.
This newly created role is very much part of that next chapter.
As the business continues to grow, they are strengthening the way commercial opportunities are assessed, challenged and ultimately approved.
They are now looking for a Commercial Governance & Procurement Manager who can bring structure, commercial judgement and objective thinking to that process.
What will you actually be doing?
You’ll sit at the point where commercial opportunity meets commercial reality.
The business regularly reviews frameworks, tenders and commercial contracts relating to potential customers, and your role will be to help ensure that every opportunity is assessed properly before commitments are made.
You’ll review the commercial and contractual detail, identify areas that require negotiation, highlight potential exposure and make sure the senior leadership team have the right information in front of them before decisions are made.
That could mean considering
- contractual liabilities and areas of exposure
- payment terms and commercial commitments
- service levels and delivery obligations
- operational capability and resource requirements
- profitability and commercial viability
- areas requiring negotiation or clarification
- risks that need to be accepted, mitigated or escalated
You won’t simply be asked to identify problems.
You’ll be expected to explain what matters, why it matters and what the options are. That means presenting information to the senior leadership team in a clear, concise and objective way — stripping away emotion and opinion where appropriate and using data, evidence and commercial logic to support recommendations.
The role therefore requires somebody who can look at a contract and ask:
- What are we committing ourselves to?
- Where is the commercial exposure?
- What should we negotiate?
- Can the business realistically deliver this?
- And, based on the facts, what should the leadership team know before making their decision?
You’ll have the credibility to challenge when required, but this isn’t about becoming the person who simply says “no”. It’s about helping the business make better-informed commercial decisions.
The successful person will be pragmatic, balanced and solutions-focused.
The Wider Opportunity
This is also much broader than reviewing individual contracts.
As a newly created position, you’ll have an opportunity to help shape and strengthen the business’s wider approach to commercial governance, procurement, contract approval and mobilisation.
You’ll work closely with colleagues across Business Development, Operations and Finance, helping ensure that commercial opportunities are not only attractive, but deliverable and appropriately controlled. The role also includes oversight of the onboarding function and management of the existing Onboarding Coordinator
You’ll help develop processes and frameworks that support the business as it continues to scale, while making sure those processes remain practical and commercially useful rather than becoming bureaucracy for bureaucracy’s sake.
And that point matters.
This company has grown successfully because it has retained the ability to move quickly, make decisions and behave like an entrepreneurial family business.
Your Experience
We’re deliberately keeping an open mind around background.
You may currently work in
Commercial Management | Procurement | Contract Management | Governance | Risk | Operations | Compliance
You’ll need strong commercial judgement, confidence around contractual information and the ability to analyse situations objectively.
We’d expect you to bring experience across a number of the following areas:
- commercial contract review
- frameworks and tender documentation
- procurement or supplier management
- contractual risk and governance
- identifying commercial exposure
- negotiating or recommending changes to contractual terms
- assessing operational deliverability
- developing governance or approval processes
- presenting commercial information to senior stakeholders
- using data and evidence to support recommendations
You’ll need to be confident enough to challenge senior people when necessary, but emotionally intelligent enough to do that in the right way. You’ll need to know when something represents a genuine risk, when something simply needs negotiating and when an issue is perfectly manageable.
Above all, you’ll need good judgement.
Why Join?
For us, this is probably the easiest part of the advert to write.
We know the business. We know the people leading it. And we know the care they have taken to build it.
There is ambition here, but also humility. There are high standards, but also warmth. There is commercial success, but there is still a genuine family-business mentality running through the organisation.
If you’re somebody who wants to join a business while it is still evolving and play a meaningful role in helping it grow responsibly, this is a genuinely exciting opportunity.
The role is based in Bushey, Hertfordshire, working Monday to Friday, 9am–3pm, and the company operates an on-site model. Commercial Governance & Procure…
If this sounds like the type of business, role and journey you’d like to be part of, we’d love to have a confidential conversation.
