Health and Safety Executive (HSE) is the independent regulator for work-related health and safety. We act in the public interest to reduce work-related illness, death and serious injury across Great Britains workplaces.

Our regulatory responsibilities cover a range of industries across Great Britain from the smallest microbusinesses right up to major global companies who manage high hazard facilities. HSE is an executive non-departmental public body, part of the civil service, and sponsored by the Department for Work and Pensions.

The procurement team within HSE is a fast-paced environment delivering the procurement needs for the Health and Safety executive. We play a critical role in procuring goods, contracts and other items that are needed. You will be working in a small team within the wider finance area of HSE and will be playing a key role in keeping people in workplaces safe.

Due to the nature of the work involved this role is only suitable for full time working.

Job description

As a Procurement Officer, you will be operating within the fast paced environment of the Procurement Division. The Procurement Unit aims to provide commercial focus in the procurement service we provide to the organisation and to implement a more consistent approach. We manage strategically important contracts in accordance with the Government Commercial Function principles, to help us meet the challenges we face, as well as supporting the business in delivering its regulatory and commercial functions.

To achieve this we

  • Process requests for goods and services into requisitions ensuring that relevant spending controls, approvals and processes have been adhered to in accordance with Procurement Regulations
  • Provide support to Science Directorate in relation to its sales/commercial contracting opportunities depending upon location occasional travel to Buxton, Derbyshire may be required
  • Provide support for the Procure-to-Pay (P2P) process, including undertaking goods received action, invoicing, payment form processing and general queries
  • Provide ad-hoc administrative support to Head of Procurement as required
  • Providing general advice on P2P, suppliers and processes in place
  • Undertake Records Administrator role for the Unit

At HSE, we are proud to be able to offer our people the opportunity to work in a hybrid way which combines working from home and the office. This is a voluntary, non-contractual arrangement, and your allocated office will be your contractual place of work.

Travel

There will be a requirement to travel to the office for various activities, e.g., collaborative working, supporting and training colleagues. If hybrid working is suitable for you and your role, you will be expected to attend the office, or other business-related site, for 60% of your working week. The arrangements will be determined primarily by business need, but personal circumstances and other relevant circumstances will also be taken into account.

Therefore, we would encourage candidates to consider if the commute from home to the office is a feasible distance to travel before making an application. Please note that if you are successful, hybrid working will be discussed prior to taking up the post.
