About the Role
A key role in managing relationships with suppliers and ensuring the optimisation of our procurement function. To help on the mission to enable everyone who needs minimum access surgery the benefit of access to Versius our surgical robot.
This role is offered on a hybrid basis, with a minimum of 3 days a week being based in the office (2 days at Ely and 1 at Cambridge).
Responsibilities
- Full ownership and management of allocated suppliers and commodities
- Responsible for the end-to-end sourcing process including market analysis, negotiating, contracting and any other activities associated to contract and supplier management
- Work pro-actively with technology, regulatory and marketing departments to understand their needs and deliverables, translating them into agreed sourcing strategies and plans
- Optimise internal procurement processes to improve buyer efficiency and accuracy, including use of automated systems and AI as appropriate
- Maintain strong working relationships and develop our partnerships with external vendors
- Cross-functional project management of key activities and initiatives
- Track and deliver cost of goods (COGS) savings
- Understand demand requirements and translate to effective, communicated supply plans
- Ensure on-time supply while maintaining correct levels of inventory
- Track & report key metrics, agree service level agreements
- Finalise purchase details of orders and deliveries where required
- Minimise exposure to supply risks and develop contingency plans
We’d expect you to be willing to turn your hand to anything within the Supply Chain remit that helps the team deliver its objectives.
About you

Extensive procurement experience within technical manufacturing and procurement environments such as:
- Vision systems and other complex medical devices
- PCBA Contract Electronic Manufacturers and device Contract Manufacturers
- Precision electro-mechanical sub-assemblies (robotic sub-assemblies a bonus)
- Advanced motion, sensing & control
- Ultra-high-precision CNC, milled and turned steel and aluminium products
- Metal injection moulding and plastic injection moulding products
- Previous experience of improving internal purchasing processes through use of AI, work-flow automation and other advanced tools highly advantageous
- High proficiency in MS Office tools & ERP systems required
- IS013485 experience advantageous
- Degree qualified in a relevant discipline, a suitable alternative and/or relevant experience
- Additional professional qualification advantageous (e.g. CIPS)
- Willingness to travel globally if required
