Join Laing O'Rourke as a Procurement Apprentice to support major construction projects and develop procurement expertise within a leading engineering firm.

Your Role

Here’s what you will be doing

  • Progress through roles from Procurement Trainee to Assistant Procurement Manager during the programme.
  • Work within central Procurement, project procurement, or category management teams under guidance of Line Manager and Professional Mentor.
  • Assist with procurement of subcontractors, materials, plant, and services following the Business Procurement Strategy.
  • Support Work Winning activities as required.
  • Develop and maintain professional relationships with suppliers, subcontractors, and service providers aligned with LOR’s values.
  • Manage formal tender processes including stakeholder engagement and commercial/technical reviews.
  • Provide recommendations for formal award approvals and assist with contract drafting, issuing, and execution per LOR guidelines.
  • Manage supply chain performance and reporting.
  • Gain understanding of Design for Manufacture (DfMA) and self-delivery opportunities.
  • Ensure ethical, compliant procurement practices aligned with corporate governance and best practice.
  • Stay informed on legislation, best practices, and sustainability in procurement.
  • Champion LOR’s sustainability agenda and encourage innovation.
  • Deliver internal customer satisfaction throughout procurement lifecycle.
  • Assist in gathering category management data and use digital procurement tools effectively.
  • Develop product and category knowledge to support competitive and cost-effective solutions.

About You

The company is looking for

  • A minimum of 96 UCAS points across 3 A-levels or equivalent.
  • Eligibility to work in the UK (no visa sponsorship available).
  • Strong numeracy and literacy skills.

Training & Development

  • Professional Apprenticeship Programme commencing September 2026.
  • Mentorship from the Line Manager and the Professional Mentor.
  • Development of procurement and commercial skills aligned with the L4 Commercial Procurement and Supply Apprenticeship standard.

Career Progression

  • Progression from Procurement Apprentice to Procurement Trainee and then Assistant Procurement Manager during the programme.
