What you’ll actually be doing and why it matters

Supplier performance decides whether programmes deliver on time, on cost and to quality. In this role, you’re the person who makes that happen through your team. You’ll lead a team of Buyers, reporting to the Supply Chain Manager.

You’ll turn the supply chain strategy into clear SMART objectives your team can own. You’ll drive improvements in supplier cost, quality, delivery and working capital. Then you’ll hold yourself and your team to the KPIs that show it’s working.

You’ll work in a matrix alongside Operations, Engineering, Quality, Finance and Programme Management, across Supply Teams. When supply is at risk, you’ll spot it early, escalate where needed and put recovery plans in place.

Essentials

To be successful, you’ll ideally bring

• Proven leadership experience in supply chain, procurement or purchasing within manufacturing or engineering
• A track record of leading, coaching and developing high-performing teams
• Strong supplier relationship management, with measurable gains in quality, cost, delivery and service
• A solid grasp of strategic sourcing, inventory management and working capital optimisation
• A data-driven approach to problem-solving, supported by strong ERP and Excel skills
• The ability to influence stakeholders at all levels across cross-functional teams
• CIPS (Level 4 or above), a relevant degree, or defence/industrial sector experience would be an advantage
• West Sussex based (or nearby).

The challenge

You’ll manage the Supply Chain process: annual cost savings, supplier on-time delivery, supplier quality, contract compliance and inventory optimisation. Supply continuity and risk mitigation sit with you too.

You’ll also own your team’s performance through regular objective setting, reviews, feedback and development plans. That includes tackling underperformance when it arises. All activity must meet company policy, governance, regulatory standards and ethical sourcing practice.
