Materials and Supply Chain Planner

Location: Wednesbury, West Midlands

On-site, Monday–Friday (9am–5pm)

Salary: £40-£45,000 plus benefits

Reports to: Head of Procurement

Our client is a leading organisation within the manufacturing and operations sector, known for their strong supplier partnerships and commitment to operational excellence. They are seeking a proactive and driven Materials and Supply Chain Planner to join their procurement team.

This is a key, hands-on role that ensures the smooth, cost-effective, and timely supply of bulk oils across two sites. You will be the central link between suppliers, hauliers, production, planning, and senior leadership, making a real impact on performance, supply security, and commercial success.

The Role

As Materials and Supply Chain Planner , you will take the lead in managing and developing strong, collaborative relationships with direct material suppliers. You’ll work closely with the scheduling team, ensuring accurate planning, timely call-offs, and seamless contract execution.

This role offers variety, autonomy, and the opportunity to shape processes, support a small team, and act as a trusted deputy to the Head of Procurement when required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build strong, proactive relationships with all bulk oil suppliers through regular communication.
  • Support, train, and provide holiday cover for the Bulk Oil Scheduling team.
  • Maintain accurate SOPs, planning sheets, delivery uploads, and weekly contract balance reports.
  • Manage call-offs based on contract positions, pricing, and forecasts to ensure smooth contract execution.
  • Identify risks or issues early and work with internal teams and suppliers to resolve them
  • Verify 3rd-party toll-packed volumes and ensure weekly capacity is balanced.
  • Lead weekly Teams calls with suppliers to review volumes, forecasts, and performance.
  • Resolve paperwork, invoicing, and demurrage issues promptly.
  • Act as key point of contact between suppliers, hauliers, production, planning, and technical teams.
  • Obtain quotes for new lanes/routes and support procurement decisions.
  • Provide insights and monthly KPI reports to management.
  • Act as backup to the Head of Procurement when required.

You enjoy building relationships, understand supply chain dynamics, and can make informed decisions under pressure, with experience of working in a fast-paced and demanding environment.

  • Excellent communication and relationship management skills.
  • Strong organisational ability with high attention to detail.
  • Experienced in supporting or managing small teams, providing daily guidance and support.
  • Comfortable interacting with managers across multiple business functions.
  • Strong Excel and systems ability (advanced)
  • Able to think quickly, manage issues proactively, and make decisions under pressure.
  • Capable of supporting management activities such as interviews or disciplinaries where needed.
