
Supply Chain Manager
- Salary: £50-55k
- Hours: 40 hours per week (8-5 with 30 minute lunch)
- Location: Hemerdon Mine, PL7 5BS
Tungsten West plc is a mining development company focussed on the restarting of the world-class Hemerdon Tungsten-Tin mine located in Plymouth. The Company is the 100% owner of the previously producing Hemerdon mine, which is currently the 3rd largest tungsten resource in the world. With demand for strategic metals, including tungsten and tin, increasing rapidly due to their critical use in new technology, Tungsten West is focussed on meeting this demand by restarting production at Hemerdon in the next 12 months.
Join the team working on the mine re-start, being an integral member throughout the project re-build, commissioning/ramp-up and into production.
Job Purpose
We are seeking an experienced Supply Chain Manager to lead all procurement, logistics, inventory, and supplier management activities supporting our mining and mineral processing operations. Reporting to the Senior Finance Manager, you will ensure that materials, equipment, and services are delivered safely, on time, and cost‑effectively to keep production running efficiently.
This is a pivotal role in a fast‑paced, operationally critical environment where strong leadership and commercial acumen will make a real impact.
Responsibilities
Procurement
- Lead end‑to‑end procurement for equipment, spare parts, consumables, and contracted services.
- Develop and execute sourcing strategies that ensure quality, compliance, and value for money.
- Negotiate commercial terms, manage tender processes, and oversee contract performance.
- Maintain accurate procurement records aligned with financial and regulatory requirements.
Supplier Relationship Management
- Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers, contractors, and service providers.
- Conduct supplier evaluations, performance reviews, and risk assessments.
- Identify opportunities to consolidate suppliers, improve reliability, and reduce cost.
Inventory & Materials Management
- Oversee inventory planning, stock control, and warehouse operations.
- Implement demand forecasting and replenishment processes aligned with maintenance and production schedules.
- Optimise stock levels to balance operational readiness with cost efficiency.
Logistics & Distribution
- Manage inbound logistics for materials and equipment delivered to site.
- Coordinate outbound logistics for tungsten and tin concentrate shipments.
- Oversee transport planning, freight arrangements, and compliance with safety and environmental standards.
- Ensure efficient storage, handling, and movement of goods across the site.
Cost Control & Risk Management
- Monitor supply chain costs and identify opportunities for savings and process improvements.
- Develop contingency plans to mitigate risks such as supplier delays or price volatility.
- Support budgeting and forecasting activities related to procurement and logistics.
Systems, Data & Process Improvement
- Oversee ERP, warehouse management, and procurement systems to improve visibility and accuracy.
- Implement best‑practice processes and drive continuous improvement.
- Produce regular reports on procurement activity, inventory levels, supplier performance, and KPIs.
What You Need To Succeed
- Proven experience in supply‑chain management, ideally within mining, heavy industry, manufacturing, or engineering environments.
- Strong negotiation, commercial, and contract‑management skills.
- Knowledge of logistics, warehousing, and inventory‑control best practices.
- Experience implementing and using ERP or procurement systems.
- Excellent communication, stakeholder‑management, and leadership abilities.
- Ability to work in a fast‑paced, operationally critical environment with shifting priorities.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
- Proactive, organised, and commercially minded.
- Able to build strong relationships across internal teams and external partners.
- Comfortable making decisions in a dynamic operational setting.
