Principal Consultant – IT Procurement

£70,000 – £78,000 + Bonus + Package

UK Remote Contract | Occasional UK Travel to Client Site

We’re supporting a well-established procurement and commercial consultancy with a strong track record of helping major organisations unlock value from complex third-party spend. With an established public sector presence and a strong pipeline of work, they are looking to hire a Principal Consultant – IT Procurement to strengthen their technology capability.

This role is ideally suited to an IT procurement specialist with central government experience who wants to move into consulting. You do not need previous consultancy experience, but you will need the commercial acumen, stakeholder skills and problem-solving ability to operate in a client-facing environment. The role will focus on helping clients identify and deliver savings across IT spend through discovery, spend analysis and strategic recommendations.

Key responsibilities:

  • Lead discovery activity with clients to understand current IT spend, supplier landscape and opportunities for cost optimisation.
  • Analyse spend data across technology categories to identify trends, inefficiencies and actionable savings opportunities.
  • Advise on supplier consolidation, better commercial arrangements and strategic sourcing approaches to improve value.
  • Engage confidently with senior stakeholders, challenging constructively and influencing decisions around cost-saving initiatives.
  • Deliver across a range of public sector programmes, with a particular focus on central government-facing environments.

Key Skills:

  • Strong IT procurement expertise, with a clear understanding of key technology spend areas and where savings levers can be pulled.
  • Previous experience working within central government procurement environments is essential.
  • Proven track record of delivering measurable cost savings and commercial value across IT or technology spend.
  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to assess spend data and translate insight into credible recommendations.
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement skills, with the confidence and communication style needed to step into a consulting-style role.

Why join?

  • A strong entry point into consulting for someone with the right public sector IT procurement background and client-facing skillset.
  • A high-impact role with real autonomy, working on strategic cost optimisation challenges rather than pure contract management.
  • UK remote contract with flexibility, backed by a strong package and a growing pipeline of public sector work.
