Purpose

As Procurement Director, the role is pivotal in ensuring the efficient and cost effective acquisition of quality goods and services required by Clients and the business in a timely manner. Leading a team of procurement professionals, managing supplier relationships and developing and implementing procurement strategies that align with the overall company goals, implementing metrics to measure the performance of the department.

Finally, the Procurement Director plays a key leadership role in the development of customer bids, working alongside colleagues to shape solutions, deliver content, and improve our probability of success.

Job Responsibilities

Main Duties & Responsibilities

Direct Team Leadership

  • Develop and execute the company’s procurement strategy to optimise costs while maintaining quality and reliability across European direct and indirect spend.
  • Lead the team to ensure best practise methods are understood and consistently applied.
  • Conduct regular employee communications as part of the project communication schedule to ensure all colleagues are informed of business performance.
  • Drive colleague engagement, performance management, talent development and succession planning across the function
  • Responsible for service delivery, customer KPIs and commercials relating to purchasing, supply chain management, inventory planning and technical engineering
  • Lead the procurement team in setting departmental goals, objectives, and key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Creation and delivery of strategic procurement toolkit, driving ethical, sustainable, economical quality and environmental compliance, whilst maintaining corporate governance.
  • Strategically responsible for all new bids and contract relets requiring procurement input, understanding customer requirements and translating them into a winning solution
  • Support solution design of new bids to enable an integrated, effective solution across the business to deliver a bid winning commercial offering
  • Ensure procurement activities adhere to all legal, regulatory, and ethical standards.
  • Mitigate procurement-related risks through robust risk assessment and mitigation strategies.

Business Development

  • Build procurement solutions for strategic bids to best place TVS for a winning position
  • Build key executive relationships across Defence Primes, UK MoD and other Blue-chip Organisations, as the customer or potential partners.

Centre of Excellence Leadership

  • Drive continuous process improvement to ensure efficiency and consistency are maximised, reducing costs/risks to TVS
  • Implement process audits to validate that solutions and operations are best in class, cost effective and bid winning.
  • Create a single way for doing procurement across the business recognising that some clients will require tailoring to meet regulations/freedoms that apply. Create the ‘TVS Way’ for Procurement.
  • Provide procurement input and leadership into the Sustainability agenda covering Environmental, Economic and Social Value dimensions.
  • Set direction on Supplier Relationship Management and consider how to organise this activity for audits and compliance, setting appropriate standards.
  • Develop training plans and certification as required. Manage CIPS membership strategy for the organisation. Deliver training organically or contract external providers as required.
  • Determine the toolsets required by the business including documentation, templates, processes. Ensure our tools integrate with core MSYS modules including how we import supplier data, how we publish information through catalogues, and how we manage and control e.g. price variation.
  • As Function Lead for procurement, keep an eye on the wider procurement team and seek to maximise staff retention through career development. Identify training plans and map succession paths for key skills, noting that divisional teams have responsibility for their team structures but should consult on plans. This would also seek to create opportunities for staff movement between teams.
  • Maintain alignment of procurement role definitions across the business including skills and expectations for performance and advancement. Ensure fairness in annual reporting processes noting that performance across teams may not be consistent.
