Cheltenham Town Football Club was formed in 1887 and has spent the past 24 years as a full-time professional club. The ‘Robins’ were promoted to Sky Bet League One as champions of League Two in 2021 and in the following two seasons achieved finishes of 15th and 16th – the highest placings in the history of the club.

With the Club now under new ownership, an opportunity has become available at an exciting time for the Club.

We are looking for a motivated and reliable accounts and procurement assistant to join the team. The successful candidate will be joining a small but dedicated team, committed to playing their part in the club's success. A team player is essential. This role covers all aspects of finance and procurement within the business.

You will have at least two years of experience in a similar role and have the ability to follow processes, work individually but also as part of a small team in other areas of the business if required.

Job Description

Location: The EV Charger Points Stadium, Whaddon Road, Cheltenham, Glos, GL52 5NA.

Working hours and days: As per contract of employment. However, flexible working arrangements will apply.

Travel: This role is based full-time at the stadium. Expenses will be provided for any travel required.

Purpose of the job: To work closely with many stakeholders within the club to support the finance director in running the finance department as well as delivering procurement across the club. You will be the main financial member on a day to day basis with a Financial Director working 1 day a week from the club.

Key Tasks and responsibilities

  • Maintain an organised and up to date purchase ledger, processing and coding of all invoices, ensuring relevant approvals are completed.
  • Completion of monthly, and ad hoc payment runs.
  • Management of petty cash, credit cards and fuel cards.
  • Completion of quarterly VAT returns
  • Maintain compliance with all statutory and football-related finance requirements (e.g. ensuring that football payments are completed on time to avoid disciplinary sanctions.
  • Completion of monthly bank reconciliations and processing of all bank payments.
  • Maintenance of the clubs sales ledger, raising commercial invoices, as agreed with relevant stakeholders and working together to chase debt.
  • Assisting in maintaining financial records and running of month-end reports.
  • Completion of relevant office of national statistics returns.
  • Support of the clubs annual statutory audit.
  • Monitoring all spend and costs to ensure focus of procurement principles on key spend areas to maximise actual savings.
  • Leading professional and transparent tender and award processes, ensuring all compliance and risk issues are addressed in the process.
  • Completion of ad hoc reporting as and when required.
