Our client is seeking a highly experienced and proactive Logistics and Supply Chain Operations Manager to oversee all aspects of their supply chain operations based at their **Newcastle upon Tyne, Tyne and Wear** facility. This critical role requires a strategic leader capable of optimising processes, reducing costs, and ensuring the efficient flow of goods from procurement to final delivery. You will be responsible for managing warehousing, inventory control, transportation, and distribution activities, ensuring adherence to strict quality and safety standards. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of supply chain best practices, advanced knowledge of logistics software and systems (e.g., WMS, TMS), and a proven ability to manage complex operational challenges. You will lead a team of logistics professionals, fostering a culture of continuous improvement, efficiency, and customer satisfaction. Key responsibilities include developing and implementing strategies to enhance supply chain performance, negotiating with suppliers and carriers, and ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations. This role demands excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, along with the ability to work effectively under pressure in a fast-paced environment. You will be instrumental in streamlining operations, identifying cost-saving opportunities, and improving overall supply chain resilience. Experience in managing international logistics and customs procedures would be a significant advantage. The successful candidate will have a strong track record of successful project management within logistics and supply chain, and a commitment to operational excellence. Building and maintaining strong relationships with internal departments and external partners will be vital for success in this hands-on role.
Key Responsibilities: Oversee and manage all day-to-day logistics and supply chain operations, including warehousing, inventory management, and transportation. Develop, implement, and refine supply chain strategies to improve efficiency and reduce costs. Manage relationships with suppliers, carriers, and other third-party logistics providers. Ensure accurate and timely inventory control and stock management. Optimise transportation routes and methods to minimise costs and delivery times. Implement and maintain robust quality control and safety procedures. Lead, train, and motivate the logistics and warehouse team. Utilise logistics software and systems (WMS, TMS) for optimal operational performance. Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and generate regular reports on supply chain efficiency. Manage customs compliance and international shipping requirements where applicable. Identify and mitigate supply chain risks and develop contingency plans. Required Skills and Experience: Proven experience in a senior logistics or supply chain management role. In-depth knowledge of warehousing, inventory management, transportation, and distribution. Expertise in supply chain optimisation and continuous improvement methodologies. Proficiency with WMS (Warehouse Management System) and TMS (Transportation Management System) software. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. Excellent leadership and team management abilities. Experience in negotiating with suppliers and carriers. Understanding of international trade regulations and customs procedures. Proficiency in relevant software applications (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite, ERP systems). Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, or a related field.
