Our client is seeking an experienced and highly analytical Senior Buyer to join their dynamic procurement team in **Sunderland, Tyne and Wear, UK**. This pivotal role will focus on strategic sourcing and category management, driving cost savings and ensuring the reliable supply of goods and services critical to our operations. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and executing sourcing strategies, identifying and evaluating new suppliers, and negotiating favourable terms and conditions. You will conduct market analysis to understand trends and opportunities, manage supplier relationships, and ensure compliance with company policies and industry regulations.

Key responsibilities include

Developing and implementing long-term sourcing strategies for key spend categories. Conducting thorough market research and supplier landscape analysis. Managing the end-to-end procurement process, from requirements definition to contract execution. Negotiating complex contracts with suppliers, ensuring optimal pricing, quality, and delivery. Monitoring supplier performance and managing relationships to foster collaboration and continuous improvement. Identifying and mitigating supply chain risks. Collaborating with internal stakeholders across various departments to understand their needs and align procurement activities. Ensuring compliance with all relevant legal and ethical standards. Mentoring and guiding junior members of the procurement team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of procurement best practices and have a proven track record in strategic sourcing, preferably within a manufacturing or industrial sector. Excellent analytical, negotiation, and communication skills are essential, as is the ability to build strong relationships with both internal teams and external suppliers. A degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience, is required. Experience with procurement software and advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite are also necessary.
